Jason Day has revealed he’s on an Augusta watchlist for fashion and was forced to “tone down” a proposed outfit for Thursday’s opening round.
The former world No.1 was tapped on the shoulder by Masters officials last year and asked to remove a garish designer sweater while playing alongside Tiger Woods.
“We kind of did (have something planned for this Thursday) but … they said that’s a little bit much,” Day said.
“We had to send it in. I think I’m on the short list of guys that have to send their scripting in now. I get it. It’s good. I understand. We’re here for the tournament. This is why we come every April.
“We’ll do what we can with what we have fashion-wise and enjoy playing the tournament.”
For the first time, the only place to watch the Masters live is Fox Sports, available on Kayo Sports and Foxtel.
Day has a lucrative deal with golf apparel maker Malbon and was also asked to cover up a logo on his windbreaker before the start of the third round at this year’s Farmer’s Insurance Open.
During the tournament’s first round he wore a full grey sweatsuit, prompting CBS commentator Trevor Immelman to ask if Day had “lost his luggage”.
Day’s unusual “parachute pants” have also drawn attention.
The 2015 PGA Championship winner made other headlines at Augusta on Tuesday after mishearing a question about whether the “penny had dropped” for his friend and fellow Australian Min Woo Lee.
“Do I think what? Did you say panties?” Day asked.
“I don’t drop many panties out there, mate.”
Day has been drawn to play alongside three-time Masters champion and LIV defector Phil Mickelson and American Keegan Bradley in the first two rounds.
