Sydney FC is reportedly set to sign Socceroos midfielder Mustafa Amini.

According to a FTBL report, Amini will fly home to Australia from Cyprus to sign a contract next month with a Sydney side desperate to fill the void left by Luke Brattan, who is out for season after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee.

It’s understood Amini has verbally agreed to join the Sky Blues but is yet to put pen to paper.

Amini recently revealed via social media that he was returning to Australia.

“After nine beautiful years, I’m saying goodbye to Europe. I didn’t think this day would come so soon, but nothing in life can ever be planned,” Amini said in an Instagram post.

Amini, 28, was most recently on loan to PAEEK from fellow Cypriot club Apolllon Limassol.

He first played in the A-League for the Central Coast Mariners in October 2010.

Amini joined German club Borussia Dortmund the following year and was immediately loaned back to the Mariners, before moving to Germany in 2012.

Amini, who has represented the Socceroos eight times, also had spells at Danish clubs Randers and AGF before his move to Cyprus in June this year.

Meanwhile, Danny Townsend is set to depart Sydney FC to become the Australian Professional Leagues CEO.

Townsend is the current managing director of the APL, which controls the A-League, and has been jugging the job with his Sydney role.

“My role as APL CEO will enable me to put all of my efforts into ensuring Sydney FC and every A-League club reaches their full potential,” Townsend said.

“I look forward to building on the achievements of the past year and leading and delivering on the strategy to grow the game.”

Townsend will remain with Sydney FC until the club appoints a new CEO.
