A man who allegedly choked an 11-year old child during a junior soccer match in Perth has fronted court.
Steven Naoum, 46, is charged with impeding a person’s breathing by applying pressure to their neck over an alleged altercation that took place in front of 20 other children at Abbeville Park in Mindarie on May 25.
Police allege Mr Naoum approached a young player from the Mindarie Football Club during a game before the incident happened.
The father of a Whitford City Football Club player was banned from all club activities pending the outcome of legal proceedings.
Mr Naoum did not enter a plea when he appeared in the Joondalup Magistrates Court on Friday but said he understood the charge when it was read out to him.
The matter was adjourned until July 25.
