Melbourne Victory to host Macarthur FC in a rematch of Australia Cup final

Fresh off a memorable Melbourne derby win, the Victory are full of confidence heading to Sunday’s meeting with Macarthur FC.

Melbourne Victory have an early chance to exact revenge on Australia Cup final winners Macarthur FC when the sides meet in Sunday’s A-League battle at AAMI Park.

The Bulls beat the Victory 1-0 at the same venue in the Cup decider five weeks ago thanks to a second-half goal from Marin Jakolis.

The defeat not only cost the Victory the final but also a chance to play in next season’s AFC Champions League Two competition.

“It was one of those one-off games and it happens – it’s a final,” Victory coach Patrick Kisnorbo said.

“Credit to them that they won it, but for us now it’s just concentrating and seeing what we can do for Sunday.

“There were some great chances that we created (in the final), so we’ve just going to keep improving our game to get better.”

PK is looking forward to a raucous home crowd on Sunday to help keep the boys undefeated this season.

Kisnorbo’s men are high on confidence heading into Sunday’s battle after beating Melbourne City 3-1 in last Saturday’s derby.

The Victory stormed out of the blocks at AAMI Park to put the result to bed with goals from Nishan Velupillay, Nikos Vergos and Ryan Teague in the first 25 minutes.

“We need to keep replicating performances consistently like that,” Kisnorbo said.

“Not all of them are going to be like that, but for us we have a standard and we want to continue that standard that we have.”

Macarthur is keen to bounce back from a disappointing 2-1 last-start home loss to Newcastle.

Sunday’s match is the first of two games being played at AAMI Park in two days, with Western United meeting Melbourne City in a Victorian derby on Monday night.
