Australia’s 23-woman World Cup squad will later this month attempt to etch their name in football history as they lead the Matildas into a home tournament where hopes are high for a legacy-defining performance.

But this year’s Matildas team would only be adding to Australia’s short yet rich history in women’s football with a total of 224 women having already had the honour of playing for the Matildas since the first Women’s ‘A’ International in 1979.

Australia will continue their preparations for the World Cup with a final warm up game in Melbourne against France on July 14.

This key clash, between two of the tournament contenders, will be the last chance for Sam Kerr and her teammates to fine-tune their game before their tournament opener against Ireland on July 20 in Sydney.

With the World Cup just a few weeks away our football experts - including former Socceroos legend Robbie Slater, Adam Peacock, Marco Monteverde, Erin Smith, Emma Greenwood and Emily Benammar - have voted on their top 20 all time Matildas’ players.
