Football Australia boss James Johnson says it’s impossible to give a definitive view on Sam Kerr’s future on the back of a “30-second, 40-second clip” shown in a London court, and any call on the Matildas captain’s future would have to wait.
Kerr’s ongoing position as skipper has been questioned on the back of the video evidence shown in her trial as she fights charges of racially aggravated abuse of a police officer.
FA chief executive Johnson on Wednesday called for patience when it came to how the sport’s national governing body would deal with the Kerr matter.
“We understand that there will be some disappointment out there (from fans), but what we would ask is that we all wait out,” Johnson said.
“We know there’s a 30-second, 40-second clip out there, but we also know there’s a 30-minute video out there which certainly we haven’t seen.
“What we need to do, we need to give Sam the opportunity to go through the trial.
“Once we complete the trial, then we’ll have a holistic view of what’s happened.”
Chelsea star Kerr remains sidelined as she recovers from the ruptured anterior cruciate ligament she suffered in January last year.
She won’t play for the Matildas in this month’s She Believes Cup tournament in the US.
However, interim Matildas coach Tom Sermanni said Kerr could be fit for Australia’s two games against South Korea in April in Sydney and Newcastle.
