Recent Perth Glory signing Daniel Sturridge is baffled as to why he must quarantine for 14 days, claiming “rules are rules but I can’t make sense of this”.

The 26-cap England international signed with the Glory on October 1 in what was a major coup for the West Australian club ahead of the 2021/22 A-League Men’s season.

Sturridge has spent all but one season of his professional career playing in the English Premier League, and his signing comes with plenty of expectation.

However, he must make it through hotel quarantine in Perth before he can link up with his teammates.

Taking to Twitter to share his experience with his 2.3 million followers on the platform, the striker is less than impressed with sitting in a room for two weeks.

“Still can’t get my head around why I have to quarantine for 15 days when I’m Covid free n (sic) vaccinated,” Sturridge wrote.

“I’ve literally been in my room for a week so far and took 2 Covid tests. I have antibodies.

“Rules are rules but I can’t make sense of this.

“See you in 8 days.”

The former Liverpool man also posted a video on Instagram to 3.5 million followers, giving a tour of his quarantine room.

A number of Sturridge’s footballing peers commented under the post with laughing emojis, including Liverpool club captain Jordan Henderson and Millwall striker Benik Afobe.

Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards also joked about Sturridge’s hair, commenting “NO TRIM” to which Sturridge responded, “I will explain.”

It isn’t the first time Sturridge has posted on social media about his time in hotel quarantine.

The 32-year-old tweeted on Wednesday night: “Quarantine in Perth is a journey I tell you that. I’ve become an interior designer how I’ve configured my bags and gym equipment in this hotel room. 9 days to go in quarantine but I’m big vaxxed so we good. More YouTube, reading, bike, weights and FT’s. Positive vibes.”

Sturridge made the switch to Perth after a brief spell in Turkey with Trabzonspor.

However, his time with the club was cut short when his contract was mutually terminated on March 2 last year. He was also hit with a four-month worldwide ban for breaching betting rules.

The Birmingham native will look to hit the ground running for the Glory when its A-League campaign begins with a match against Adelaide United on November 20 in Perth.
