England fans are in good spirits at the Euros, and they had some fun at the expense of an innocent German man who was just doing his job.

Controversial penalty keeps England in Euros

England fans had a bit of fun ahead of the Euro 2024 semi-final after spotting a look alike.

Thousands of Three Lions fans gathered in the Germany city of Dortmund ahead of the semi-final clash against the Netherlands, and some bumped into a policeman who had an uncanny look about him.

The officer reminded supporters of England boss Gareth Southgate, with his hair and beard matching up.

So fans decided to serenade the policeman by singing Southgate’s song.

They chanted at the policeman: “Looking back on when we first met.

“I cannot escape and I cannot forget.

“Southgate, you’re the one, you still turn me on.

“Football’s coming home again.”

He saw the funny side and allowed himself a wry smile before laughing at the fans’ antics. Footage of the hilarious scenes have gone viral on social media.

England fans continued to have plenty of fun in Germany and some began chanting “We want our ball back” after German cops confiscated their football.

They have been in fine voice on the streets and trains of Dortmund, mingling with Dutch supporters near the stadium.

However some supporters came under attack from opposition fans.

Five fans were hurt and arrests made during the skirmish as Dutch yobs attacked England fans outside a restaurant in the German town.

Tables were upturned an orange shirted attacker was seen hurling a chair as missiles were hurled in the clash outside Sausalitos restaurant and bar in the city centre.

Trouble flared near the start of the spectacular Dutch “fan walk” to the stadium as tens of thousands of soccer revellers passed the eaterie.

Officials confirmed five people had suffered minor injuries and at least one Dutch fan was caught on camera being detained by riot cops who quickly surrounded the scene.

An injury time winner by Ollie Watkins gave England a thrilling 2-1 win as they booked their place in consecutive Euros finals.

It was an incredible finish to an evening that began badly for England, as Xavi Simons gave the Netherlands an early lead in the semi-final in Dortmund.

However, England were soon level through a Harry Kane penalty following a contentions VAR call by German referee Felix Zwayer, and the match looked set to drift towards extra time until Watkins struck.

On for Harry Kane, Watkins received a pass from fellow substitute Cole Palmer with his back to goal in the first minute of stoppage time, turned and fired low into the far corner to leave the Netherlands completely stunned.

It has rarely been a convincing campaign from Gareth Southgate’s England side, but they are through to their second consecutive European Championship final as they dream of finally winning a first major trophy since 1966.
