The U17 boys final between Lilli Pilli FC and BTH Raiders was one of the most closely contested matches of the weekend, with a single strike from Lilli Pilli’s Liam Skyes all that separated the two clubs.

The score was deadlocked at nil-all with less than 15 minutes remaining on the clock when Skyes struck and the Raiders couldn’t find an equaliser.

Lilli Pilli coach Scott Freeman said the boys’ chemistry on the field was incredible.

“I think three quarters of the team have been playing together since under 6s,” Freeman said.

“We won the State Cup in under 12s and most of the guys have stayed together so I’m really happy for the guys to get the result today, they deserve it.”

Freeman said the support from the club has been really great all season.

“It’s been fantastic,” he said.

“We couldn’t ask for any more, everything we want they help us get.

“It’s just a great club to be a part of.”

Back-to-back titles for CC Strikers

It was a scrappy goal but it still counted for Collaroy Cromer Strikers as the U15 girls went back-to-back in the Champion of Champions with a 1-0 win over Lindfield.

The strike from Evie Dicembre slipped through slipped through Lindfield keeper Kiera Green’s fingers, handing the Strikers the title.

Strikers manager Monique McEvoy said it was a nailbiting match.

“It was a bit stressful,” McEvoy said.

“I think it was only going to be a one-goal game and whoever got that goal was going to take away the trophy, and thankfully we’ve got it today for the second year in a row.”

The result caps off a long, successful year for the team and McEvoy said the girls fought the whole way.

“It was a very long one but good for the girls,” she said.

“They’ve had to fight but they’ve won it all along the way and their hard work has paid off in the end.”

Concord JSC make history

The U16 girls from Concord have made history, becoming the first team in their club’s history to take home a Champion of Champions title following their 5-3 victory over Wakehurst FC.

Concord were out in front just minutes into the match following a stunning goal from Bianka Pavela, who picked up a brace during the match alongside Charlotte Butler.

Coaches James and Luke Monda were jumping for joy after the final whistle and said they couldn’t have asked for a better group of girls.

“They all really stepped up,” James said.

“Wakehurst had actually won back to back (championships) as well, so it was always going to be a big feat.

“But we pumped them all up and the girls played awesome, absolutely killed it.”

Luke said it felt like an even greater achievement knowing it was a first for the club.

“The girls knew it was an achievement to even make it this far,” he said.

“It’s actually the first time in 41 years that Concord has won it as well, the first ever female team, so that’s pretty cool.”

James and Luke said the close bond between the girls was the reason they could get it over the line.

“We’re probably one of the closest teams at this competition,” James said.

“I can bravely say that they’ve all got each other’s backs and no matter what, they’re never going to turn on each other and they keep fighting to the end for one another”

Another title in the bag for Lindfield FC

In one of the matches of the tournament, Northern Suburbs FA club Lindfield FC took down Manly Warringah’s Seaforth FC 2-1 to claim the G14 Champion of Champions title.

The match looked set to be heading to extra time after Seaforth levelled the scores late in the second half, but Lindfield snatched back the lead in the dying seconds to become champions.

Lindfield coach Andrew Jenkins said it was a great game to end the season on.

“Seaforth put up a very good fight,” Jenkins said.

“That was easily the toughest game of the season.

“But they went out with a bang and I think that’s what they deserved from this season.”

It’s been a very long season for Lindfield and Jenkins said the girls have really embraced the challenges that have come their way.

“We’ve actually been going since January,” Jenkins said.

“We went to Bathurst in the pre-season, Canberra in the middle of the year, and it’s been very stop start with all of the wet weather.

“But the girls push through, some weeks when we only got one training or no trainings, they still applied themselves and they got everything they could from it.”

Unfortunately for Lindfield it would be the final title for 2024, with the club’s AAM side falling to Coogee United and the U15 girls going down 1-0 to CC Strikers.
