YOU may have never heard of him, but Andrew Redmayne may just be Australia’s luckiest footballer.
The Sydney FC goalkeeper tasted grand final success on Sunday night, despite only playing one game for the Sky Blues in their record-breaking season.
It means the 28-year-old has now won three grand finals in his eight year A-League career, after being part of the Brisbane Roar squad that won back-to-back titles in 2010 and 2011.
This is despite only playing one game in each of those seasons.
In fact, Redmayne only played 10 minutes in the 2010/11 season with the Roar, coming on in a 4-0 win against Gold Coast United.
The following season he played a full 90 minutes in the 2-1 win against Gold Coast United.
This season with Sydney FC, Redmayne played one game between the sticks when regular keeper Danny Vukovic was on Socceroos duty.
Making his feat even sweeter is the fact Redmayne only joined Sydney FC mid-season after moving from cross-city rivals Western Sydney Wanderers.
“I’m delighted to be joining the leading club in the country,” Redmayne said when he joined Sydney FC.
Redmayne conceded four goals in the Wanderers’ derby defeat to Sydney FC in round one.
Football fans were quick to highlight Redmayne’s knack of being at the right club at the right time after Sydney FC’s penalty shootout win.
Andrew Redmayne is the 6th goalkeeper to have played for Sydney FC, and the 6th keeper to keep a cleansheet against Perth Glory.

Biggest winner in this Sydney premiership team is Redmayne, leaves Wanderers midseason and wins the competition playing one game #aleaguegf pic.twitter.com/lmFuK8fWOt

Think we should all just take a minute and let it set in that Andrew Redmayne now is a premiership winner #ALeagueGF

Redmayne isn’t the first Australian goalkeeper to win a medal for essentially sitting on the bench.
Socceroos legend Mark Schwarzer won back-to-back English Premier League titles with Chelsea and then Leicester City last season despite getting no game time in either campaign.
