Australian Test star Marnus Labuschagne has again earned a reprieve via lady luck when at the crease during the second innings of the Sheffield Shield final at Karen Rolton Oval in Adelaide.
Labuschagne on 20, with the score on 85, went for a hook shot off the bowling of first innings destroyer Brendan Doggett which Liam Scott made a magnificent effort just to get to, let alone catch low down, with both hands, at fine leg.
But on further inspection South Australia were to be denied their third wicket. Labuschagne went on to make 61 when Queensland was 3/144.
Great Scott!

Labuschagne has often been described as a lucky batsman through his international career and this instance yet again backs up that claim.
Queensland reeled in the South Australian lead of 176 to lead by one run, at the end of day two, and look set to make their chase down a total to break their 30 year Shield drought.
Usman Khawaja (21) again failed to make a score in the second innings, dismissed once more by Brendan Doggett (2-38). His opening partner Angus Lovell fell for 38 to the bowling of Scott (1-23).
Earlier, former South Australian captain Jake Lehmann posted his 14th first class century to put his state in a commanding position over Queensland on day two of the Sheffield Shield Final.
Lehmann brought up his century from 132 balls and his contribution was absolutely vital to South Australia’s cause coming to the crease at 4/65 in reply to Queensland’s paltry 95. He became the first man in 40 years to make three consecutive Sheffield Shield centuries, finding form at the right time.
Special!

Lehmann (102) was the final wicket to fall with the score on 271.
It shapes as a feel-good story should SA now convert their strong lead into the state’s first Shield victory in 29 years.
Lehmann was just three when his dad Darren lifted the trophy in 1996 following their famous draw with Western Australia.
Pictures from that game captured a young Lehmann sitting on his father’s knee as he posed with the trophy.
Together with No. 8 Ben Manenti, Lehmann took the score to 184 after coming together at 6/112. Manenti departed for 47 in what was a significantly valuable contribution given South Australia at one stage looked destined for the same fate as Queensland, losing their first four wickets for 65.
Lehmann continued to receive great support from Nathan McAndrew (39), who together added 85 to take the score to 7/269, when the centurion reached his hundred on a pitch neither side found easy for the first day and a half.
McAndrew was the eighth wicket to fall soon followed by Doggett for a second ball duck, with paceman Jack Wildermuth (3-39) taking both wickets.
Entering day two, South Australia were 6/158 with Lehmann, 42 not out, and Manenti unbeaten on 36.
On day one, opening batter Conor McInerney contributed 38, while incumbent Alex Carey made 24 before he was bowled by 19-year-old young gun Callum Vidler who finished with 4-64 from 18 overs.

South Australia’s advantage in the match was set up by former Queensland paceman Brendan Doggett taking 6-31 off 11.5 overs on day one, including the vital wicket of Test opener Usman Khawaja for just two.

Khawaja was dropped twice before he was caught on the fine-leg boundary by Nathan McAndrew (2-22) off the bowling of Doggett. McAndrew also captured the wicket of fellow Test batter Marnus Labuschagne for a duck, with the Queensland captain caught at leg slip by Lehmann to leave his side at 2-16 in the 11th over.
