Mitch Marsh joked life’s good when there’s “no bowling” to do after a blistering return to cricket in India as Jake Fraser-McGurk failed again, with the boom youngster’s bubble seemingly burst.
Playing as a batter only for the Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League, Marsh swatted Australian teammate Mitch Starc around the ground in his 36-ball innings of 72, which included six sixes.
Opening the batting, Marsh whacked the first ball he faced from Starc, a 144.7km thunderbolt, into the crowd.
Having missed the Champions Trophy through injury, the innings was Marsh’s first since January but not enough to get his team a win.
Instead, the Delhi Capitals recovered after Fraser-McGurk was out for just one to reel in the target of 209.
The two-ball innings for Fraser-McGurk continued a horror run that included scores of just nine and two for Australia in two ODIs against Sri Lanka.
He was picked in Australia’s Champions Trophy squad but didn’t play a game.
The 23-yeaer-old has netted six singles figure scores in his past 10 innings across international cricket, the Big Bash and now the IPL.
Fraser-McGurk replaced David Warner at the Capitals last season and blasted more than 350 runs to earn another contract.
Warner missed out on an IPL deal but is instead playing in the Pakistan Super League where he has been named captain of the Karachi Kings
The Kings’ first pick at the draft in January, Warner replaces Shan Masood.
“We have a fantastic line-up and I’m super excited to take on the role of captain this year,” Warner said.
After his captaincy ban was lifted by Cricket Australia, Warner guided the Sydney Thunder to the Big Bash final.
Kings owner Salman Iqbal said his “track record as leader and matchwinner aligns perfectly with our vision” while paying tribute to Masood, whom he expected to remain a “key player in the squad”.
