Ben Duckett or Mackenzie Harvey?
If you’re a fan of classic catches, then Christmas has come early thanks to two screamers in the opening 10 days of the BBL.
Only a few days after arriving from a Test series in New Zealand, Duckett pulled off a stunning catch on the edge of the ring to remove Adelaide’s D’Arcy Short.
Peter Siddle delivered a half volley which looked to be sailing over Duckett’s head, only for the Englishman to launch one arm above his head and reel in the catch.
“That’s Maxwell-like. What a catch from Ben Duckett,” Mike Hussey said on Fox Cricket.
Adam Gilchrist added: “He’s leapt so early just to give himself every chance, I think just because of how fast that ball was coming. It seems like he knew that and he jumped so early to get up there.”
Teammate Glenn Maxwell said: “That was really special — especially during the power surge.”
Not to be outdone, Harvey produced a blinder of his own at Marvel Stadium to send Scorchers debutant Matthew Spoors packing a few days later.
Spoors mistimed a hoik into the leg side and Harvey elevated at the perfect time while backtracking, showcasing his freakish fielding ability with a brilliant catch.
“Mackenzie Harvey is as good an athlete in the field as anyone we have in Australia,” Brad Haddin told Fox Cricket.
Ravi Shastri said he rated Harvey’s as the better catch: “It’s dipping, so he’s got time that jump to perfection.”
