THE Giants head south to take on Super Netball favourites, the Magpies, as the No.1 club in the competition and with a new-found confidence says their captain Kim Green.
Former Diamonds midcourter Green says two wins from their opening two outings of the new netball competition has installed a quiet confidence in the club that did not even exists six months ago.
But Green admits the match against the Magpies on Saturday in Melbourne will be their biggest test to date.
SUPER NETBALL: TEAMS, PLAYERS, DRAW
The Giants beat the Swifts in the first game of the season by five and West Coast Fever by a whopping 15 goals on Saturday night, but neither team have been installed as top four contenders in the inaugural Super Netball competition.
The Magpies, with five Diamonds in their starting seven, are the favourites for the first competition honours despite their upset loss to Vixens in round one.
“It will be important to get that win,” Green said of the Giants’ next assignment.
“We gained confidence from the win over West Coast Fever on Saturday.
“But I think a win over the Magpies would be a real lift. They are such a quality side.”
In the first match of a NSW double-header which attracted less than 6000 fans, the Swifts grabbed their first points of the competition against wooden spoon contenders, the Adelaide Thunderbirds, with a 54-44 win.
They also hit the road this week to take on the Vixens in a Melbourne double-header.
After pulling off the upset of the first round by downing the star-studded Magpies, the Vixens on Sunday fell to new club, Sunshine Lightning 58-52.
This leaves the Giants as the only team in the eight club competition with two wins after two rounds.
