2026 Commonwealth Games schedule: When Gout Gout will be going for gold
The new-look Commonwealth Games may have dropped a few sports, but there’s a key moment to look forward to in 2026 for rising star Gout Gout.
Rising athletics star Gout Gout could be gunning for gold medal glory on a Friday night in Glasgow in 2026 after the full schedule for the slimmed-down Commonwealth Games was revealed.
There will be a mammoth eight days of boxing among swimming and athletics as well as 3x3 basketball, while the netball gold medal match, likely to feature Australia, will close the competition.
Just 10 sports will feature at the Games, which were picked up by the Scottish city after being abandoned by former Victorian premier Daniel Andrews, to be contested over 10 days, with up to 3000 athletes expected to perform.
The Games will begin on July 24 with events including swimming and para swimming, with Australia set for a massive medal haul, pending the attendance of athletes including Olympic champions Ariane Titmus and Kaylee McKeown.
Gout, who contested his maiden senior world championships this year before he turned 18, making the semi-finals, has expressed his desire to get to the Commonwealth Games and contest his pet 200m event, the final of which is scheduled for July 31 in Glasgow.
The 100m final is scheduled for Tuesday, July 28 (local time).
Australian team chef de mission Petria Thomas said confirmation of the schedule made the Games feel “more real than ever”.
“Our athletes can now begin to finetune their preparations knowing when they’ll step onto the field of play, while fans can start planning where and when they’ll be cheering on the green and gold,” she said.
“From the first medal event through to the final day of competition, this schedule promises non-stop action and incredible opportunities for our Australian athletes to perform at their best in what will certainly be a thrilling celebration of sport.”
With a glut of swimming medals expected, Australia is also going for back-to-back netball golds.
Sports including cricket and hockey were bounced from the Games program in a bid to cut costs and keep it alive beyond 2026.
