‘It is done’: World stunned as Tszyu suffers boxing ‘beat down’

Tim Tsyzu’s shot at redemption went up in flames before the Australian was hit with a brutal clip by one of boxing’s biggest figures.

Tim Tszyu’s career is suddenly on life support.

A stunned Las vegas crowd has been left with dropped jaws as Tszyu sensationally failed to come out to fight the eighth round against Sebastian Fundora on Sunday.

Tszyu was knocked to the ground in the opening round of the word title re-match and never recovered despite landing some savage blows of his own.

The 30-year-old confirmed after the chaotic scenes in the ring that the decision for him to quit on his stool had been made by the whole team.

“I tried to give it everything but I just couldn’t do it,” Tszyu said after the fight.

It has been 476 days since Tszyu lost his WBO super welterweight world title to Fundora after a heartbreaking split-decision in one of the most gruesome fights in memory.

The heartbreak went to another level on Sunday when Tszyu suffered a seventh round TKO defeat while fighting for Fundora’s WBC belt.

Taking punishment when he failed to find a way inside Fundora’s longer reach, Tszyu tried to turn the fight on its head by getting in tight and turned the flight into another short-range slug fest that left both fighhters dripping blood.

“He’s one tough motherf***er,” the Australian said.

“I gave it everything and I couldn’t do it. He’’s the best 154 pounder on the planet right now. He was the better man.”

Tszyu has now lost three of his previous four fights — and was outclassed in the Fundora re-match and his title fight against Russian Bakhram Murtazaliev.

Tszyu looked a broken man in the dressing room after the fight. He was taken to hospital after completing his post-fight obligations.

The drama continued in the co-main event as Manny Pacquiao turned the clock back to take Mario Barios to school.

The crowd could barely believe it as they cheered the 46-year-old to the final bell.

Then there was pandemonium as the judges scored the fight a majority draw with one judge giving the fight to Barrios 115-113.
