TENPIN: The quality of the Tenpin Bowling State Championships was exactly what you'd expect of an elite competition - extremely high.

"The level of competition has been amazing,” tournament director Morty Douglass said.

"We've got the best players in the state competing and that has shown.

"There's been some very good scores posted - including two near perfect games.

"Australian representative Matt Clague went the closest bowling 10 strikes in a game.”

Douglass said the first weekend of competition tested competitors but they adjusted quickly.

"It's a different pattern on the lane (at Sunset Superbowl) than what a lot of the bowlers are used to,” Douglass said.

"But the best adjust quickly and get straight to business.

"The masters bowlers had to average about 220 to be competitive.”

In the junior division the action was no less intense.

"Donovan Brown peeled off back-to-back games of 270 on his way to winning the title,” Douglass said.

"In the women's youth division Kylie Bailey was just too good. She was very consistent over the championships and that's what got her the win.”

WHAT IS THE PATTERN? The pattern Morty Douglass referred to is an machine applied layer of oil applied to the surface of the bowling lanes. While all bowling centres use the same machine - it can be applied differently which effects how the ball moves.
