The Tasmania JackJumpers NBL title defence has suffered a serious blow with star big man Will Magnay set to be sidelined.
A brief statement released via the club’s social media channels on Thursday afternoon revealed Magnay will miss the next six to eight weeks with a fractured toe.
Magnay suffered the injury during practice this week.
“He will be reassessed at this time,” the club said.
The JackJumpers currently sit fifth on the ladder with a 8-8 record after finding their best form in recent weeks.
Magnay has averaged 13.8 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game this season on the back of his Paris Olympic campaign with the Boomers.
The setback should open the door for new import Ian Hummer to be thrust into the starting line-up in Magnay’s absence.
Questions will now be raised over the prospects of Magnay returning before the end of the regular season given the timeline of the injury.
The Jackies final game is scheduled for Saturday, January 25 against the South East Melbourne Phoenix.
Coach Scott Roth and his side will next turn their attention to a clash with second place Melbourne United on Monday night.
Then it’s a quick turnaround for the Christmas Day clash with the New Zealand breakers.
