TERRANCE “Pot Roast” Knighton has a funny story about how he got his nickname.
“It was dark on the plane and everyone was sleeping,” the Denver Broncos man mountain explains.
“The stewardess was walking down the aisle saying, ‘Pot roast, pot roast,’ and I raised my hand as if that was my name.
“The guy sitting behind me — [former teammate] Clint Ingram, probably the biggest comedian I ever played with — said, ‘I’m going to start calling you Pot Roast.
“I was like, ‘Yeah, whatever.’ But it stuck with me. I’m just glad I ordered that instead of shrimp Alfredo. I just thought it was going to be something to laugh about for the week, but five years later we’re still talking about ‘Pot Roast’.’’
Knighton is regarded as one of the nicest guys in the NFL, but he has an appetite problem.
His problem is so severe he has copped a massive $300,000 in fines over the past few years for weight-related issues.
Most of the fines have come from missing weight markers, according to Bleacher Report.
Knighton is officially listed at 152kg, but apparently that’s a porky pie (lie).
His weight problems have gotten to the point where his place in the team is in jeopardy.
“His actual weight is more. Maybe a lot more,” the report said.
“The Broncos will undergo a number of changes in the coming days and weeks. (General manager) John Elway won’t sit back and chill. He will be aggressive in fixing the team’s problems.
“One of those issues he’ll have to decipher is Knighton.”
Knighton’s fines are believed to be the most costly in the history of the NFL, but they are not uncommon.
New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin fines a player $400 a day for every pound (half a kilo) they are overweight.
