Rams cult hero Andrew Whitworth was celebrating the biggest moment of his sporting career when he learned the world was more interested in his disinterested daughter.
Whitmore’s daughter Katherine went viral and became a meme almost instantly when the TV broadcast showed her reading a book as the family watched on during the game.
Despite supporting her dad by wearing his No. 77 jersey, Whitmore’s youngest daughter looked like she couldn’t care less as she watched on from inside SoFi Stadium.
Whitworth, who became the oldest player in the NFL following Tom Brady’re retirement last week, laughed off his daughter’s snub when interviewed the morning after the big game on a national breakfast TV show.
The 40-year-old said there is much more to his seven-year-old’s behaviour than what it seemed.
“Oh, it’s special,” Whitworth told NBC Today.
“She’s the fourth one and, you know, the hardest one. That’s her.
“She’s so cool. She’s just her in every moment, and that’s what makes her special. You know what? It’s that fourth one that’s just the strongest, the toughest and who-she-is the most, out of all of them.”
“That’s why we love her so much.”
The love goes both ways in the Whitworth family.
His wife and children rushed the field at the end of the game and raced to give their hero a big hug.
He was also photographed in an adorable moment where he held the three-year-old daughter of Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford s confetti fell around them.
It was such a perfect, sweet moment for the popular offensive linesman.
The 16th season of Whitworth’s career finished with a win over the team with whom he spent his first 11 seasons, never winning a playoff game in four appearances before he left in free agency, The New York Post reports.
Brady (a seven-time champion) and Jerry Rice (a three-time champion) are the only Super Bowl starters ever older than Whitworth.
“Any time a team kind of doubts you and you go somewhere else and you end up in Year 16 playing them in the Super Bowl, what an inspiration,” Whitworth said on NFL Network.
“I didn’t need any more to play in the Super Bowl, but that gave me a little boost.”
If that five-year-delayed revenge wasn’t sweet enough, the Super Bowl win comes just three days after he was named the NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year for his work with schools in the greater Los Angeles community.
He is yet to respond to suggestions he will retire before the 2022-23 NFL season.
