NBA: Aussie superstar Patty Mills to take part in All-Star Weekend

Patty Mills has been laser-like from deep this season and now the Aussie NBA star has been selected to participate in All-Star Weekend.

Patty Mills has already set a new career-best three-point haul in 2022 and will look to take that form to a title after being included in the NBA’s three-point contest at the All-Star Weekend in Cleveland later this month.

Mills, who had a quiet outing on Wednesday as the Brooklyn Nets were blown off the court early before eventually losing 126-91 to the Boston Celtics, will attempt to become the first Australian-raised player to win the showpiece event.

The Olympic bronze medallist is one of eight selected for the event where he could follow Australian-born, US-raised 2013 winner Kyrie Irving, now his Brooklyn teammate.

Fellow Australians Josh Giddey and Dyson Daniels will also make their way to All-Star weekend in Cleveland, with the two Victorians to play in the rising stars challenge and Giddey in the skills challenge.

Daniels is rated as a potential first-round draft pick later this year and is taking part in the game along with some of his Ignite teammates from the NBA’s minor league, the G-League.

Mills currently ranks in the NBA’s top five in three-pointers scored this season with 173 and could challenge for the club record, with D’Angelo Russell’s 234 in his sights.

The 33-year-old has raced past his career-best haul for three-pointers in a season, which was 164.

Despite his boom year, Mills could only manage five points for the Nets in the loss to the Celtics, in which Boston scored 28 of the first 30 points in the match.
