Josh Giddey has become just the second teenager in NBA history to score multiple triple-doubles.
The 19-year-old Aussie finished the Oklahoma City Thunder’s 101-106 loss to the Chicago Bulls with 11 points, 10 assists and 12 rebounds to his name.
Before Sunday afternoon (AEDT), only Slovenian big man Luka Doncic had scored more than one triple-double before his 20th birthday and Giddey has now become the youngest to do so.
Earlier this year, Giddey became the youngest player in NBA history to record a triple double, knocking Illawarra Hawks-turned-Charlotte Hornets star LaMelo Ball off his perch.
It was also Giddey’s first triple double under Thunder coach Mark Daigneault, who was in the league’s Covid-19 protocols when he recorded his first.
“I thought he was really good tonight,” Dagneault said of his Aussie superstar after the buzzer.
“I was impressed with his poise.
“I thought he had a pretty contagious style for us tonight.”
Giddey also became the only Thunder rookie in history to score more than one triple double.
With his latest performance, the young Aussie showed exactly why he was hand-picked to take part in All Stars Weekend later this month.
Giddey and fellow Aussie Dyson Daniels will join elite NBA rookies and sophomores, and G League Ignite players for a mini-tournament in Cleveland next weekend.
Since being selected with pick six of last year’s draft, Giddey has been named Western Conference Rookie Of The Month three times already and has quickly become a fan favourite.
He’ll next run out for the Thunder against the New York Knicks on Tuesday morning (AEDT).
Elsewhere on Sunday, Patty Mills’ Brooklyn Nets slumped to their 11th straight loss, going down to Miami Heat 115-111.
Aussie big man Jock Landale had a win playing for Mills’ old side, the San Antonio Spurs, who defeated New Orleans 124-114.
