THE legal action being run by Shine Lawyers for footballer Liam Cullen will be of intense interest to every rugby league player, official and club.
Mr Cullen is suing Roma Cities player Alby Tardent and Cities Rugby League for $1.4 million over a tackle which he claims has left him a traumatic closed head and brain injury which has caused him ongoing cognitive problems including mood swings, depression and issues with co-ordination and balance.
The case is extremely topical, given the tackle that knocked Storm star Billy Slater unconscious at the weekend.
Rugby league officialdom is always looking at ways to make the game safer.

But it is a contact sport and the issue of legal action being taken over onfield incidents will be fiercely debated and closely watched.
There may be changes to the rules which eventuate.
The ARL has to look at ways and penalties that will discourage tackles like the one that ko'd Billy Slater.
This local legal action has the potential to set a precedent throughout the entire code.
Anything that makes the game safer will be welcomed.
