Radio host Jase Hawkins has launched into a scathing rant about Eddie McGuire.

The former Collingwood president has come under fire on Wednesday after controversial footage of his private celebrations sparked anger in some sections of the AFL community.

Ex-Collingwood and Carlton star Dale Thomas posted a video on Instagram Stories with McGuire standing up and tapping his glass while celebrating news Magpies star Brayden Maynard had been cleared by an AFL tribunal.

The AFL confirmed on Wednesday the league will not appeal the verdict, leaving Maynard free to play in the preliminary final.

There have been some suggestions McGuire’s celebrations were in poor taste after Maynard’s smothering act resulted in Melbourne star Angus Brayshaw being left unconscious for two minutes during Collingwood’s qualifying final win.

“Ladies and gentlemen, justice has been done,” McGuire said in the video.

“Brayden Maynard is free to play for the Pies.”

Hawkins on Wednesday said McGuire’s actions were not the image the club wanted.

“Every time I talk to a Pie’s supporter, I’m like why does the club have such a bad name, Eddie Maguire’s name comes up every time because of w***** moves like this,” Hawkins said on on KIIS 101.1’s Jase & Lauren.

“Sit down you kn**. Justice has been done? There is a player now who has to sit a week out from concussion and his family is outraged because he may not ever play again and you’ve got this d***head sitting up in restaurants screaming stuff like that. That’s not the image the club wants.”

Hamish Brayshaw, the brother of Angus earlier said it would be an “injustice” if the AFL did not appeal the tribunal verdict.

Speaking on SEN’s Sportsday, Hamish said: “I think if it went not guilty and no one appealed it from their end, I think it would be a little bit of an injustice because if it goes the other way, I’m sure Collingwood will be appealing it.

“I’m not over the ins and outs of the Tribunal but if you leave the ground and make contact with the face, you knock someone out, that’s been the way it’s been.

“I understand it’s different with the pressure of a final and all the rest of it … there’s been a lot of people say it’s going to set a precedent and it’s divided a lot of people.

“For me, really at the end of the day, that doesn’t bother me as much of the outcome of (Angus’) health but it’s certainly one I’ll be paying close attention to.”

Melbourne great Shaun Smith has also slammed the “absolutely disgusting” decision to clear Maynard.

Smith was awarded a $1.4 million insurance payout from the AFL in 2020 as a result of head injuries during his football career.

“AFL you are an embarrassment and an absolute joke,” Smith wrote on social media.
