Viral clip of Jordan De Goey has Collingwood coaches and fans salivating

A clip of Collingwood star Jordan De Goey from a pre-season hitout has left club coaches licking their lips over what’s to come.

Collingwood celebrates 'upgrade' to AFL training facility

The time may be coming for the Jordan De Goey takeover, at least that’s what Collingwood are hoping for.

Footage of the Pies superstar from a pre-season hitout has left the coaching staff licking their lips that the next big step is coming in 2024.

Collingwood’s director of coaching Brendon Bolton shows off a moment of pure brilliance from de Goey to the playing group.

The footage begins at the centre bounce with De Goey pouncing on the ball as it falls over the back of the two ruckmen.

As he collects the ball off the turf he tucks it under his right arm as he fends off one hapless defender.

In a flash he shifts the ball to under his left arm pit as he extends his right arm out to shrug off a second would-be tackler.

He then rolls forward as he feeds a handball out to an open teammate who kicks the ball inside 50.

Not finished there, he gets on the end of another play as the team in white attempt to clear it out.

A handball over his right shoulder finds an open Scott Pendlebury who drives the ball deep inside the 50m arc.

“Jordie this is one of you mate,” Bolton says as the clip begins to roll.

“This is pretty special mate we’re lucky to have you here … just want to make sure you know you’re appreciated.

“There’s another connection here between you and Pendles, you feed him again. We’re lucky to have some players like you mate.”

De Goey played a key role in helping Collingwood secure the 2023 premiership in a nailbiting victory over the Brisbane Lions.

Collingwood will be hoping the bull of a player can emulate the feats of Melbourne’s Christian Petracca and take his game to the next level.

The similarities between the two are eerily similar when you compare Petracca’s season the year before he elevated his game to an elite level.

Throughout the 2020 season, the Demons midfielder averaged 23.5 disposals per game with 372 metres gained per game while kicking an average of 0.9 goals.

In 2023, De Goey has the following averages: 23.9 disposals, 372m gained and 0.9 goals per game.

The very next season for Petracca, he exploded and averaged: 29.2 disposals, 540m gained per game and 1.2 goals per game. He also took his clearance averages from 3.9 a game to an absurd 6.3 per game.

If De Goey can mirror that rise, the Collingwood star will elevate himself into Brownlow favouritism and could go a long way to leading the Pies to back-to-back flags.

The clip of De Goey comes after Collingwood came under fire online after they posted a video celebrating their new football training facilities, replacing what used to be a netball training base.

The footage sees defender Jeremy Howe explaining to fans about the club’s “newly, fresh laid out indoor court”, which will be used by Collingwood’s AFL and AFLW teams.

“The boys are gonna have a hell of a time in here, so looking forward to it,” he said.

Magpies players are then seen training on indoor turf, with a miniature footy oval painted over the top, though basketball/netball hoops are also visible at one end.

The area was a netball court for the club’s Super Netball side, which the Magpies folded in 2023, pointing to a reported yearly loss of $1 million.

The Magpies as a whole made a profit of $7.56 million in the financial year ending October 31, 2023.

Some Magpies fans reacted positively to the video but the overwhelming majority of replies centred on the netball team, criticising the fact the change had been celebrated as an “upgrade”.
