Former Port Adelaide star Brad Ebert has reunited with Michael Voss, joining Carlton as a development coach.

Ebert, who played under ex-Power assistant Voss for six years before retiring at the end of the 2020 season, joined the Blues on Friday.

The 32-year-old will work closely with Carlton’s head of development, Luke Power, and also be a VFL assistant coach.

Blues football boss Brad Lloyd said Ebert, who lined up in 260 games with West Coast and Port, would be a great asset for the club.

“Brad will focus on our younger talent and will work to ensure they build the skillset needed to succeed at the elite level,” Lloyd said.

“Michael can continue being a mentor for Brad, this time in the coaching space.

“We’re thrilled to have Brad on board.”

Ebert said he aimed to help drive higher standards and was excited to get started.

“It is a privilege to grow my coaching career under the guidance of Michael Voss … and I have no doubt I will thrive under his leadership, just as the playing group do,” Ebert said.

FORMER CAT READY TO LAND AT POWER

Francis Evans is planning to come to SA next week to train with his new teammates after officially joining Port Adelaide.

The 21-year-old small forward had known about his switch for a few weeks, having been axed by Geelong in September, and the Power signed him as a delisted free agent on Thursday.

“It’s been a bit of a wait … so it’s nice that it’s all official,” Evans said.

“I’ll try and head over next week and do a few sessions with the boys before the actual pre-season starts, just to get to know everyone a bit better and build a foundation.”

Drafted with pick 41 in 2019, Evans played seven games for the Cats, including five last campaign.

He said it was exciting to be at Geelong as the club went on to win this year’s premiership.

Evans then went on holiday in Europe for a month, taking his mind off football.

“Towards the end (of the trip), I kind of knew Port was going to take me so it was nice to have a bit of structure as well and got back into training,” said Evans, who stood 182cm and 83kg.

“I’m obviously very thankful for the Cats for the three years they gave me.

“I was really lucky and grateful that Port were interested and gave me a chance.”

The Power’s pre-season starts for its first to four-year players on November 21.

***The delisted free agency period runs from Thursday November 3 to November 9.

Other players vying to be picked up as a delisted free agent include former Kangaroo and Hawk Jed Anderson, ex-Tiger Sydney Stack, fringe Cats’ forward Quinton Narkle, Connor Blakely from Fremantle, Hawk Daniel Howe and former Blue Liam Stocker.
