Melbourne Demons star Christian Petracca hospitalised again, set for more surgery

The luckless streak has continued for Christian Petracca, with the sidelined Melbourne star back in hospital for the third time in less than a month.

Melbourne star Christian Petracca has again had to go to hospital, for the third time in less than a month.

The Demons midfielder’s season is already over after he suffered four broken ribs, a lacerated spleen and a punctured lung when he copped a knee from Collingwood captain Darcy Moore in the King’s Birthday clash last month.

Petracca was rushed to hospital to have surgery and also spent time in the ICU.

He had to isolate because of the risk of infection, and had to return to hospital after fresh concerns.

Petracca’s luckless streak has continued with the Demons star coming down with appendicitis.

He went to hospital on Saturday and will have his appendix out on Sunday.

Melbourne general manager football performance Alan Richardson said Petracca was maintaining a positive attitude despite “these traumatic challenges”.

“Christian experienced increased abdominal pain yesterday and was admitted to hospital, where he was diagnosed with appendicitis,” Richardson said.

“As a result he will undergo surgery today to remove his appendix.

“It is obviously a very stressful time for Christian, Bella and their families, who have already been through so much over the past month, and our focus is on providing them with as much love and support as possible.

“It is testament to Christian’s character, that he continues to navigate these traumatic challenges with such a positive attitude.”
