Geelong has confirmed its interest in recruiting WAFL star Blake Schlensog, who it delisted 12 months ago.
Schlensog, 21, has been linked with a move back to Kardinia Park and could be drafted as a delisted free agent or through any of the drafts.
Geelong list boss Stephen Wells said Schlensog’s delisting had been a blessing as it had allowed him to play a season of state league football with South Fremantle, where he was one of the Bulldogs’ best players.
“He has gone away and made the most of his opportunity over in Perth,” Wells said.
“He took it upon himself to go and find employment and play in a good standard of competition and it worked out well for him.
“There’s been players in the past where getting delisted isn’t the best thing for them.
“I reckon he might have kept developing if he was still on our list but this time last year we still had Nathan Kreuger and Lachie Henderson and other players that were playing in that similar position and it was just too tight to keep him on the list.”
Wells also said the door remained open for out-of-contract midfielder Charlie Constable to return to Geelong after he could not find an AFL home elsewhere.
“He’s one that we’ll be talking with and about over the course of the next 10 days as we finalise our list,” he said.
“Those decisions have to be made by (October 31). We’re going to get stuck into that now that the trade period’s happened without him being traded.”
