Potential Essendon father-son Noah Caracella on training with Essendon and winning a junior premiership

His father won premierships at two clubs, but he is only eligible to join one as a father-son. And he had a unique opportunity during the pre-season with the Bombers.

Noah Caracella was fortunate enough to have his talented father watching him on the training track over the pre-season.

Eligible to join Essendon at the end of the year, where his father Blake played 126 games and won a premiership, Caracella spent a fortnight rubbing shoulders with Bombers players at The Hanger.

Former captain Dyson Heppell and Mason Redman were among the players he learnt off through the experience.

And it meant spending some more time with dad, who is an assistant coach at the club.

“Went to work together and went to training together and then he was at training, giving me pointers while I was training so that was great,” Caracella said.

“(I was) involved in most of the drills, they took us out of match sim just managing our load but it was still a great experience.

“Dyson Heppell was really good, just his standards and the way he goes about his day.”

Blake Caracella also played for Collingwood and won a premiership with Brisbane across his 187-game career, but he only reached the 100-game father-son threshold with Essendon.

It means Noah has been part of the James Hird Academy through his development years, but Covid and being based in Geelong has meant he hasn’t been as heavily involved.

“He (Blake) helps a lot. Just going through my game and giving little pointers here and there is a big help,” Caracella said.

Spending most of the year across half-forward for the Geelong Falcons, Caracella played his best game for the season down back against the Murray Bushrangers on Sunday, finishing with 22 disposals, six marks and a goal.

The 188cm prospect won an U18 premiership last year with Newtown & Chillwell alongside several other Falcons and under three-time premiership star David Wojcinski.

“Great to get the win in under-18s undefeated throughout the year. We also won a couple of flags in the last couple of years with them,” Caracella said.
