Collingwood injury news: Luckless Taylor Adams to miss second consecutive preliminary final with hamstring injury

Taylor Adams was the hardluck story of last year’s finals, and now the veteran Pie has learned his fate for next weekend’s preliminary final after a Friday training hamstring strain.

Collingwood’s Taylor Adams will miss a second consecutive preliminary final after suffering a heartbreaking hamstring strain in a match simulation session at the AIA Centre late on Friday.

Adams grabbed at the back of his leg after an innocuous collision with teammate John Noble during the match play and immediately came from the field.

He spoke to coach Craig McRae as he came from the ground and went straight down into the rooms for assessment.

Scans have revealed Adams suffered a minor strain which has ruled him out of next week’s preliminary final.

But the Magpies are hopeful that given it is only a minor strain that he could still push for selection if the club makes it through to a grand final.

That would be a tight race against time with a 15-day gap between Adams suffering the injury on Friday and then trying to prove his fitness for a possible September 30 premiership playoff if the Magpies make it through.

“It’s unfortunate to confirm that Taylor Adams has sustained a low-grade hamstring strain during our training session held (on Friday) evening,” Collingwood general manager of football Graham Wright said.

“Taylor has been an integral part of our midfield this season, and while it’s disappointing for him and the team that he won’t be available for the upcoming preliminary final, the positive is that it is only a minor strain.

“Our medical staff are working closely with Taylor who will immediately commence rehabilitation on his left hamstring.”

Adams suffered a serious groin injury in last year’s qualifying final against Geelong and missed the Magpies’ preliminary final against Sydney.

The Magpies had been looking at selection squeeze ahead of their preliminary final clash next week with Brownlow Medal hope Nick Daicos set to return from injury.

With Adams out for next week at least, it could ease that pressure on those players who had been under pressure to keep their spot.
