Sonja Hood reveals meeting with Channel 7 after North Melbourne’s Kane Cornes ban

North Melbourne president Sonja Hood has revealed the club is yet to decide whether to revoke its Kane Cornes ban after holding talks with Channel 7 bosses.

Cornes called out for 'bullying'

North Melbourne hasn’t “made amends” with Kane Cornes, with president Sonja Hood saying the club was yet to make a decision on whether to end the Channel 7 star’s match-day ban from the Kangaroos dressing rooms.

Hood maintained the club’s issue was with Cornes’ personal attacks on its players, but stressed they had a good relationship with the network.

Hood and Kangaroos chief executive Jen Watt recently met with Channel 7 director Chris Jones to discuss the situation, with North Melbourne set to host its Centenary match on a prime-time Thursday night in round 17.

“I wouldn’t say that we made amends,” Hood said on 3AW when asked about Cornes’ ban.

“I’d say we had a really open conversation about our decision to ban Kane from the rooms.

“We made a decision to ban Kane from the rooms for Thursday night football in a week that was highly emotionally charged thanks to his commentary and the reactions of our players.

“I think that was a simple case of not wanting him in our workplace.”

Asked if a decision had been made on whether Cornes would be allowed back for the Centenary match against the Bulldogs next month, Hood said: “The club needs to sit down and work out what we do in this particular instance.”

“We don’t have a vendetta, or a life ban, or a particular problem but in that week and in that moment it was an important decision.

“From time to time, it is really important to remind people where that line is. Kane crossed the line. We dealt with it, we pointed it out and we made our point for that week. It’s done.”

But Hood said: “If they (the players and coaches) make a case that there is a reason for it to continue, then we would discuss that.”

She stressed the club’s issue had been with Cornes, not with the network, saying the meeting with Jones went well.

“Jen and I sat down with Channel 7 just to understand where they were at and for them to understand where we were at, and I think we came to a pretty good place, actually.

“The schism was never with Channel 7. We’ve always had a great relationship with Channel 7. We had a disagreement with Kane and with something Kane said. We dealt with that.

“We didn’t ban Channel 7 from our rooms, simply Kane, and simply on that night.”
