One of Geelong’s most prominent off-field figures will depart the club.

On Wednesday, the Cats announced Simon Lloyd would leave his role as the general manager of commercial projects in May.

Since arriving at GMHBA Stadium at the end of the 2015 from Fremantle, Lloyd has held several roles including the director of coaching and general manager of football.

As the general manager of football, a role which he held for six seasons, the Cats won the 2022 premiership and expanded its program to introduce an AFLW side in 2019.

In what was labelled as a “mutual decision” by the club, Lloyd will now take on another challenge in his career.

“I will look back fondly on my Geelong journey, the challenges navigated and the continuous striving for improvement that culminated in the ultimate club success,” he said.

“I’m proud to have set strong foundations in various roles for Geelong to succeed on and off the field.

“The exceptional people I’ve worked with, the players and football department, club staff and the members and supporters of this great club can feel very proud of the organisation they are a part of.

“I’d like to thank the Geelong Football Club for investing in me and giving me the chance to invest in its success. From this great experience I now look to the next opportunity for growth.”

Geelong chief executive Steve Hocking paid tribute to Lloyd upon his departure.

“We brought Simon to the club because of his extensive experience in leadership, his commitment to transformation and his care for culture,” he said.

“Simon has demonstrated a unique ability to influence individuals and large groups to optimise performance and achieve goals at the elite level.

“We’ve been grateful for his passion and dedication to our football programs and broader club as a business.”

The Cats are currently preparing for a Gather Round clash with the Western Bulldogs on Saturday night.

The game will see Mark Blicavs celebrate his 250th game in the blue and white hoops.

Blicavs and coach Chris Scott will front the media on Thursday morning.
