Brisbane captain Dayne Zorko is set to be available for the Lions’ clash with Essendon on Saturday after scans cleared him of a serious leg injury.
Zorko, who didn’t play in either of Brisbane’s two pre-season trials after having minor surgery to correct an Achilles problem, heard a “pop” in his calf during Brisbane’s opening-round 11-point weekend win over Port Adelaide at the Gabba.
It led to the Lions skipper being substituted in the third term.
However, in good news for Brisbane, scans on Monday showed no serious damage to his calf.
“It was the scar tissue that got stirred up, so as long as he trains this week, he’ll be OK to play on the weekend,” Lions CEO Greg Swann said.
Midfielder Jarrod Berry will also be available for the match at Marvel Stadium after recovering from a knock to the shoulder in the latter stages of Brisbane’s weekend win.
“Jarrod Berry’s fine. It’s more of a stinger than anything else,” Swann said.
The Lions will also challenge the one-match ban slapped on Mitch Robinson for his front-om bump on Port Adelaide’s Xavier Duursma.
Robinson was charged with “forceful front-on contact”, with the incident deemed “careless conduct, medium impact, high contact”.
“He (Robinson) stood there and braced himself – I’m not sure what else he could have done,” Swann said.
Swann also said he had no knowledge of the AFL reportedly seeking extra information on the extension of Joe Daniher’s Lions contract by a further two years last month.
Daniher is in the second season of an initial three-year Brisbane deal that has now been extended until the end of 2025.
