Richmond great Matthew Richardson roasted by major champion Bubba Watson

Tigers legend Matthew Richardson’s shocker on the golf course has been critiqued by a two-time major winner.

Richmond great Matthew Richardson is usually a pretty good sport and can take a gentle roasting when it comes his way.

A man who kicked 800 goals from 282 AFL games, all with the Tigers, deserves his fair share of respect.

But the athletic tall forward also got his share of mockery from the crowd in his career as he had an ability to wildly spray set shots on goal, while he was also capable of some all-time dummy spits on the field.

The current Channel 7 footy commentator was once dropped for his interaction with teammate David Rodan over a fumble when the key forward was in the goalsquare.

“I remember getting home and seeing highlights of me carrying on and I’d actually be embarrassed going ‘what was I thinking’?” Richo said on Fox Footy’s BOB with Bob Murphy back in 2018.

The point is the great man can usually take a joke, unless of course it’s Kane Cornes having a dig at fellow Channel 7 commentators Trent Cotchin and Joel Selwood.

And the 49-year-old was firmly in the spotlight for one of his sporting efforts on Friday night and it had nothing to do with footy.

Bubba Watson, a two-time winner of the Masters and a former world No. 2, was a guest at halftime of Port Adelaide’s clash with St Kilda at Adelaide Oval.

Watson, who is competing on the LIV Golf tour’s event in Adelaide this week, was asked to critique a video of Richardson’s swing.

“Matty Richardson, a former champion of the game, this is his golf swing,” host James Brayshaw began.

“Any tips you can give him to try and help?”

We’re then greeted to footage of Richardson attempting an almighty drive, only to miss the ball completely.

“Oh wow,” Watson replies.

“Where did he go wrong?” Brayshaw asks.

“He missed the ball, that’s first and foremost,” the 45-year-old American replied.

“But man does he look athletic when he sets up to it though.”

“The set up’s good, Bubba,” Richo is heard saying in the background with a huge smile on his face.

“The set up was there,” Watson agreed. “It looked like the ball was going to go for miles.

“And then it went nowhere.”

Watson fired a two-under par first round of 70 at The Grange on Friday, with his RangeGoats GC team sitting sixth overall in the LIV format.
