Port Adelaide is in hot water after a picture has emerged showing four of its players without masks at this week’s Olympic swimming trials in a possible COVID-19 protocols breach.

The photo sent to The Advertiser shows Zak Butters, Mitch Georgiades, Ollie Lord and Dylan Williams in the Marion swimming centre crowd without masks on – violating Swimming Australia’s Covid policy.

Port Adelaide and the AFL have been contacted for comment.

Butters has been sidelined since Round 4 with a nerve knee injury and has no timeframe on a return, while Georgiades has played 11 games this season.

Lord and Williams are yet to make their AFL debuts.

It comes after the Adelaide Crows were fined $50,000 a fortnight ago for breaching Covid protocols after several players removed their masks during a flight home from Sydney.

In response to the Crows’ breach, AFL general counsel Andrew Dillon said there was “simply no excuse.”

“First and foremost, we all have a very clear responsibility to ensure we do everything we can to best protect the health and well-being of our family, friends and everyone in the community,” Dillon said a fortnight ago.

“The rule here is clear and has been in place for some time and there is simply no excuse for not abiding by it.

“We will not compromise the health and well-being of the community, and remind everyone in the industry – players, coaches, officials and staff - that they have a responsibility to adhere to the rules for the safety of everyone.”

MORE TO COME.
