Melbourne captain Max Gawn has revealed a hilarious letter he received from an overconfident Port Adelaide supporter, pre-emptively warning him the Power would supposedly defeat the Demons in the grand final.
The optimistic fan referred to the Demons as “children” several times and said they ought to be “training REALLY HARD” because “by the time you receive this — the MIGHTY PORT ADELAIDE will have belted the red white and blue puppies (the Western Bulldogs) off Adelaide Oval”.

Port Adelaide was widely expected to defeat the Western Bulldogs in front of a home crowd in last weekend’s preliminary final and book a date in the grand final against Melbourne.
However, the Bulldogs blew the Power off the park in a 71-point thrashing to cause a huge boilover and end Port Adelaide’s season early.
The over-eager supporter’s message blew up in their face on Friday when Gawn posted the hilarious letter to his Instagram stories, describing it as “some fan mail”.
The letter, typed out in Port Adelaide’s black and teal coloured font, was sent by the supporter to Gawn’s accommodation in Perth where he is preparing for next weekend’s grand final.
“I like the guts to send it early,” the Melbourne skipper wrote, accompanied by a cry laughing emoji.

Gawn kicked five goals in a career-best performance in the Demons’ 83-point demolition of Geelong in last weekend’ preliminary final and is aiming to lead Melbourne to its first premiership since 1964.
Melbourne will take on the Western Bulldogs in the AFL grand final on Saturday 25 September.
