AFL great Matthew Lloyd may have taken things a step too far after he exposed a co-star’s private text messages on live television.

AFL great Matthew Lloyd has betrayed a co-star as he exposed private text messages live on air during the Sunday Footy Show.

Lloyd was discussing the reportedly hostile relationship between fellow AFL great Nathan Brown and media veteran Tony Jones.

After showing off several clips of the duo trading barbs, Lloyd did the unthinkable and leaked private group chat messages.

An image of the group chat was then displayed on the screen which showed Jones praising Brown for making the Western Bulldogs’ best team from 2000 to 2024.

“Well done, Nafe,” Jones’ message read along with three hand clapping emojis.

Brown delivered a blunt response by sending a middle finger emoji which Lloyd instantly called out by writing “TJ was giving you a pat on the back Nafe.”

Brown then responded: “I’m not used to compliments from Tony.”

Despite the light-hearted nature of the text message exchange, the Sunday Footy Show panel could not believe what Lloyd had done.

“It’s private messages Lloydo,” Damien Barrett said in disbelief.

Thankfully for Lloyd the panel quickly moved on from him exposing the group chat to discussing Brown’s brutal response to Jones’ praise.

“When you get 100 backhanded compliments, that don’t mean anything and then all of a sudden you get a serious compliment,” he said.

“How are you meant to take that? I took that as another backhanded compliment from a man who doesn’t give out compliments.”

Nathan Brown didn't think it was a compliment.

Barrett however wasn’t having Brown’s take on the situation as he sided with Jones over the message exchange.

“I‘d normally take your side in this, but I’m taking TJ in this one, Brownie. You’re in the wrong, mate,” Barrett said.

As the onslaught from his fellow panellists rolled on, Jones put Brown on the spot and asked if he wanted to apologise for his rude response.

The former Western Bulldogs and Richmond player was blunt with his response.

“Absolutely not. We don’t apologise,” Brown said before turning to the next topic of conversation.
