Jack Crisp plans on playing well beyond his weekend milestone of 250 AFL games

Collingwood star Jack Crisp will become a 250-game player this weekend, but he has his eyes set on playing deep into his 30s — and maybe even to 40.

Collingwood star Jack Crisp plans to follow in the footsteps of premiership teammate Scott Pendlebury by playing strong football nearing the age of 40.

Crisp will reach another milestone this weekend when he plays his 250th game against GWS in one of the now two Opening Round matches.

The 250-game achievement will also be his 238th game played consecutively.

Crisp has put extra sessions into his body outside of the club in recent years and credits those to his durability.

He trusts that same durability will allow him to play on for some time yet, perhaps even until he’s 40.

“Treatment, extra sleep, my, ice baths, saunas, tried different things along the way, a lot of rest over the off season helps,” Crisp said were factors in his durability.

“I had a few years where I didn’t touch a weight and did pilates instead, just trying to find a way to get my body to rest, recover and go again.

“A couple of years ago I was saying I’d be playing in 10 years but I’m 31 turning 32 this year, I’d like to say 10 more but maybe eight.

“If I could get to 40 that would be great, I’ve still got to play some consistent football, make sure I put my best foot forward every week but I know with my body I will give myself the best chance to do that.”

Crisp is one of 10 Collingwood players over the age of 30 as it pushes for another premiership under coach Craig McRae.

He denies the Magpies veterans making extra effort to do similar recovery to what he does and believes experience will help them navigate any issues they face during the year.

“A lot of our players can play on for a lot longer these days,” he said.

“We’ve had those conversations at the club, we’ve got a lot of experience, we know how to navigate through different parts of the game, manage different moments.”

Collingwood recorded a resounding win over Richmond in its AAMI Community Series match last week.
