Heated derby results in 18 charges as Fremantle’s Nat Fyfe, pair of Eagles, Sun handed bans

An incredible 18 charges were handed out from Saturday night’s Western Derby, with the ‘Brayden Maynard rule’ finally resulting in a ban, while Nat Fyfe has also been rubbed out.

The ‘Brayden Maynard rule’ has claimed a suspension victim while Fremantle veteran Nat Fyfe will miss a trip to face Essendon next week after copping a one week ban.

An astonishing 18 charges were laid from a spiteful Western Derby, with 14 of those fines for a melee.

Eagles Jack Hutchinson and Jack Petrucelle were both handed a week suspension, Petrucelle for a crude bump on Docker Sean Darcy.

Hutchinson fell afoul of the rule brought into the game last off-season after Collingwood’s Maynard knocked out Melbourne player Angus Brayshaw when attempting to smother a kick, an action which ended Brayshaw’s career.

Ironically, Hutchinson was cited for jumping to smother a handball from Brayshaw’s brother Andrew, with the Eagle catching the Docker high.

Fyfe was banned for a week for striking Eagle Jai Culley, putting him out of Sunday’s meeting with the Bombers.

Gold Coast defender Bodhi Uwland was also rubbed out for one match, found guilty of rough conduct against Brisbane star Lachie Neale.
