Gold Coast Suns player movement: Charlie Constable, Jed Anderson and Brodie McLaughlin delisted

Gold Coast has cut three players from its list including its VFL premiership-winning captain.

Gold Coast’s VFL premiership-winning captain Charlie Constable is among three Suns delistings the club announced on Wednesday.

Former North Melbourne midfielder Jed Anderson and joint-VFL leading goalkicker Brodie McLaughlin were also not offered contracts for 2024.

Constable, 24, joined the Suns ahead of the 2022 season after 12 games for Geelong over three years.

The midfielder managed just four senior games for Gold Coast and did not feature at AFL level after round 2 last season.

He and the club came to a mutual decision to part ways, with Constable choosing to focus on life away from football.

Anderson, 29, arrived on the Gold Coast as a supplemental selection last December after 99 games with Hawthorn (2013-15) and North Melbourne (2016-22). He did not feature at AFL level for Gold Coast and made only a handful of VFL appearances.

The club granted Anderson indefinite personal leave in June to return home to the Northern Territory.

McLaughlin, 25, joined the Suns at the same time as Anderson and spearheaded the club’s maiden premiership in the VFL last month.

He finished the regular VFL season with 51 goals, sharing the Jim ‘Frosty’ Miller Medal as the VFL’s leading goalkicker with teammate Chris Burgess.

The former Frankston standout did not earn a senior opportunity at the Suns and will hope to pursue his AFL dream elsewhere.

“On behalf of the football club I would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Charlie, Brodie and Jed for everything they have given the club in their time on the Gold Coast,” Suns list boss Craig Cameron said.

“Charlie has made a decision to step away from his football career to start the next chapter of his life and we fully support him in that choice.

“While Brodie and Jed didn’t play any senior games for the club, they both played significant roles in establishing the dominance of our VFL program, which has seen the club claim its first VFL premiership last month.”

Gold Coast had planned to wait until after the trade period ended on October 18 to announce its delistings, however chose to bring the news forward to assist McLaughlin in particular in finding a new home.
