Gold Coast Suns desperate to secure first away win of the season

Until the Gold Coast can break its away hoodoo, the ‘narrative’ will remain the same, according to Suns coach Damien Hardwick.

Suns coach Damien Hardwick has a “simple” solution to Gold Coast’s poor away form.

“We’ve just got to play better for longer,” Hardwick said ahead of the Suns’ battle with the GWS Giants at Engie Stadium in Sydney on Saturday.

“That’s as simple as it is. If we do that, we’ll be OK.”

Unbeaten at home this season, the 11th-placed Suns have lost all of their eight away games.

“It’s the narrative and until we win a game (away) the narrative will certainly be there,” Hardwick said.

“We go into most weeks thinking we can beat every opposition, and this week it’s no different.

“GWS will be thinking the same with us. It’s going to be a great encounter. They’re very formidable on their home deck.

“It’s a style of game that we’re familiar with, so we know the strengths of each and we know the weaknesses that can be exploited as well.

“What we’ve got to do is make sure we play a consistent brand of Suns football that will hopefully get us over the top.”

The Suns will be without suspended pair Alex Davies and Malcolm Rosas, who have been banned for three weeks and one week respectively for incidents that occurred in the Gold Coast’s 14-point home win over Port Adelaide last Sunday.

Hardwick was disappointed with the length of Davies’ ban for his bump on Port’s Lachie Jones.

He also expressed his disappointment with Rosas for clipping the Power’s Logan Evans during running play with an elbow to the back of the head.

“That was undisciplined. We can’t afford that,” Hardwick said.

“It’s the second time this year, so we’re disappointed. He’s absolutely certain now that is unacceptable.

“He’s under no illusions at the moment that it’s costing the side. He’s got to get better at that, and it’s our job to sit there and educate, but more importantly him to accept responsibility for that.”
