Former Adelaide coach and Sydney assistant Don Pyke will become the next CEO of the West Coast Eagles.

Pyke has confirmed to the Swans that he will leave his role as a senior assistant coach at the club to head back West.

The 54-year-old will succeed Trevor Nisbett who announced in September he would not seek to extend his tenure beyond 2024.

Eagles chairman Paul Fitzpatrick said at the time Nisbett would help choose the club’s next chief executive.

“Trevor will remain as Chief Executive until his successor is in place and will assist in the transition. It is a daunting task to replace Trevor and we expect it will take some time to complete,” Fitzpatrick said.

Nisbett has been in the role since 1999 and oversaw their 2006 and 2018 premierships.

Pyke played 132 games for the Eagles, playing in both their 1992 and 1994 premiership victories, before moving into his coaching career.

He started at Claremont in the WAFL before working through the ranks at the Adelaide Crows.

Following a brief stint as an assistant back at West Coast, he became head coach of the Crows in 2016 and led them to the 2017 grand final.

After resigning in 2019, he rejoined the coaching ranks in 2021 as an assistant at the Swans.

Pyke will have his work cut out for him to help lead the Eagles back to success, with the club only winning four games in the past two seasons.
