AFL legend Chris Judd has delivered a moving tribute to his former West Coast Eagles teammate Adam Selwood.

Judd and Selwood were members of the 2006 Eagles side that won the AFL Grand Final in a nailbiting one-point win over Sydney.

The former Eagles skipper took to Instagram to honour Selwood in a moving post following Selwood’s shock death on Saturday.

“Some people bounce when they run,” Judd wrote alongside an image of The Sunday Age front page from 2006 which showed Selwood celebrating the premiership victory.

“They glide with their feet barely touching the ground, the result of genetic gifts bestowed on them. That wasn’t how Sellars ran.

“He was a great runner, but it was purely a result of grit, determination and work. His knees slightly knocked, knee lift almost non-existent, every step was a testament to his determination, which was without peer.

“He was the perfect teammate, you knew you were getting his everything each week on the field while being completely focused on the team.”

Judd also paid tribute to Troy Selwood who took his own life in February, three months before Adam’s death.

“While off the field his personality blended a hard edge with kindness and compassion, a kindness he gave to everyone else but not himself,” he wrote.

“I hope he’s up having a beer with Troy, with the sun shining on them both (with low levels of UV), and when he takes the field, I hope the forwards aren’t trying to get goal side anymore and that the new teammates love playing with you as much as we did. Rest Easy.”

The post from the AFL great was flooded with love hearts from the football community with countless praising Judd for the beautiful words.

Judd’s heartfelt tribute comes a day after the Eagles honoured Selwood ahead of their clash against St Kilda with a minute of silence to honour the former premiership star.

Jamie Cripps, who played alongside Adam during his first year in the year, was overcome with emotion as the tribute played out.

Cripps delivered his own tribute to his late mate only moments into the first quarter after dancing around a Saints defender and slotting a goal.

As he celebrated the moment with his teammates he tapped the black band wrapped around his left arm.

The ultimate honour to the former club star however came with the Eagles securing their first win of the season before captain Oscar Allen issued a plea to anybody who may be struggling with mental health issues to please reach out.

“We’ve lost a legend of our club and we just want to send all our love and support to the Selwood family,” Allen said.

“Mental health is such a massive thing in society at the moment, I’ve had my own mental battles this year and have been so fortunate to have such a great support crew around me to have my back through everything I’ve gone through.

“I just urge anybody out there who is struggling with anything, please reach out. Helplines, friends reach out to each other.

“We’re heartbroken and we just want to offer all the love and support we can to the Selwood family in this time.”
