Brisbane Lions AFL signing news: Harry Sharp extends for two more seasons to end of 2025

A highly rated young gun has rejected rival interest to sign a new deal with the Brisbane Lions that will keep him at the club until at least the end of 2025.

Fleet-footed winger Harry Sharp has rejected rival interest to ink a two-year contract extension with the Brisbane Lions that will keep him at the club until at least the end of 2025.

The 20-year-old landed in Brisbane via pick 43 in the 2020 National Draft and has played 10 AFL games over three seasons including a trio of appearances this year.

An Australian Under-18 200m steeplechase champion, Sharp smashed the AFL draft combine 2km record by 20 seconds – clocking a blistering 5 minutes 28 seconds – and has established new fitness benchmarks since arriving at the Lions.

Despite having limited opportunity at AFL level thus far, the 182cm onballer is considered one of Brisbane’s most promising young prospects and footy boss Danny Daly is thrilled to keep the Victorian on the list.

“Sharpy has been with us for a few years – (the) first year he was the sweet, little school kid, (but) this year he’s played some really good footy,” Daly said.

“He is another young player who has probably had the opportunity to go elsewhere, but decided to stay with us, which we are really thankful for.”

Brisbane’s elite midfield depth has kept Sharp in the VFL for much of the season, where he has flourished as one of the most damaging runners in the competition.

He has averaged 25 disposals and booted three goals over the past month to help steer the Lions to a top-four finish in the VFL.
