Brian Taylor floored after discovering who he’d interviewed on Channel 7

Channel 7’s Brian Taylor couldn’t quite believe his ears when he was told who he had encountered during his live on air segment.

Dominant Swans cruise into Grand Final

Brian Taylor was left floored on Friday night following his post-game routine of wandering around the victorious rooms.

Taylor approaches everybody on a weekly basis as he stops players, family members and sometimes even random fans.

At the SCG on Friday however it was an encounter that left the former player stumped.

After Sydney claimed a 36-point win over Port Adelaide to book their place in the Grand Final, Taylor was at his usual best.

But as he spoke to people within the Swans rooms, it was a conversation with a young girl that ultimately left him surprised.

“Excuse me, who’s your favourite player?” he said to the young girl.

“Umm, I like them all,” she replied.

“Are you going to go to Melbourne to watch the grand final?” Taylor added.

“I don’t know. My dad’s got tickets but I think he’s just going to take my mum and him,” she said.

Taylor ultimately continued on his way around the rooms before making his way back to the Channel 7 desk where he was informed of who he had just been chatting with.

“You know the young lady you spoke to a moment ago who said dad’s got the tickets?” Bruce McAvaney said.

“Yes,” BT responded apprehensively.

“That’s Jude’s daughter,” McAvaney said as he pointed to Ch 7 colleague Jude Bolton.

“Is it?! That was your daughter?” BT exclaimed.

A laughing Bolton replied: “That was my daughter!”

BT: “What a beautiful young girl. Great manners.”

Bolton: “Did you walk up to her or did she walk up to you?”

BT: “She walked up to me!”

The post-game moment was one of many highlights on the night as the Swans marched all over the Power to advance to the big game.

Talk after the loss turned to Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley with his future thrown right back into the spotlight.

Hinkley is yet to reach a Grand Final after his 12 years in charge at the club. While he was given assurances by club president David Koch he would retain his job for next season following a thrilling three-point semi-final victory over Hawthorn last week, Friday’s performance had the naysayers back in full voice.

Commentators firstly discussed the 57-year-old’s future late in the fourth quarter at the SCG.

“He’s able to get Port Adelaide very close and not quite to the big dance,” James Brayshaw said.

“Does a hell of a lot right as coach of this club.”

“It’s just that last step,” Matthew Richardson added. “Unfortunately they haven’t been able to do it.”

Brian Taylor then aimed another question at Richardson.

“Despite what their president David Koch says, that he’ll definitely be there next year, Richo are you a believer? Do you think Ken will want to continue?” he asked.

“When is the time for a change with these good coaches?”

The Richmond great replied: “We just seem to judge teams, if you don’t win a flag, it’s not a good season.

“If you’re getting into the top four every year, you’ve had a good season.

“Who said anyone can come in and do better than Ken’s doing?”

Speculation surrounding Hinkley’s future will linger on into the off-season while the Swans will prepare for next week’s Grand Final.
