The former Geelong ruck — who has gone from netball, to football, to study, to motherhood, to professional life at the AFL and now back to her boots — was on Tuesday night selected by Geelong with the first pick in the AFL Women’s supplementary draft.

Hoare, 33, played the 2019 AFLW season after shifting from Melbourne, before moving to Cambridge in the United Kingdom to continue her studies after completing her PhD.

Having left football at the end of the 2019 season, the 194cm tapwoman has since had two children, Edie and Conor.

She will be back at the Cats who looked to boost their ruck stocks in the wake of recent delistings and inactive player moves.

Port Adelaide gained former Docker Jasmin Stewart with pick two, while Fremantle listed local player Tahleah Mulder with the third selection.

Ex-AFLW listed players who nominated for the draft but were not selected included ex-Tigers Iilish Ross and Christina Bernardi and former Roo Sophie Abbatangelo.

The supplementary draft saw players able to nominate for a national pool for the first time, with the option to select a particular state also open.

The one-off draft was open to players born in 2004 or earlier, in a stopgap measure to bring junior and senior women’s football calendars back into sync after two AFLW seasons were held in 2022.
