Rampaging Collingwood has had a league-high five players selected in the All Australian 44 as the selection panel snubbed stars including Tim Taranto, Jeremy Cameron and Adam Cerra.

The league chose an All Australian 44 that has at least one player from every side in another indication of how even the AFL season has been.

Collingwood’s players in the All Australian 44 were Nick and Josh Daicos, Jordan De Goey, Darcy Moore and Isaac Quaynor but Jamie Elliott missed out despite an excellent season.

Carlton’s Cerra and Nic Newman, Cats pair Cameron and Gryan Miers, GWS defender Sam Taylor, Essendon’s Nic Martin and Sydney pair Luke Parker and Isaac Heeney were all missing in the list of 44.

The All Australian side will be announced on Wednesday at the league’s AFL Awards night, with Nick Larkey making a late charge for a position as the third tall forward or on the bench.

Richmond’s star recruit Taranto amassed 662 possessions and kicked 19 goals for the year but his teammate Dustin Martin was the only Richmond player in the All Australian 44.

Cameron was superb in the first 10 weeks and was seen as the best player in the competition but ultimately only Tom Stewart made the squad.

Melbourne captain Max Gawn also missed out after a moderate year with a knee injury and a ruck share with Brodie Grundy.

Bulldogs captain Marcus Bontempelli, Richmond’s Martin and Geelong interceptor Stewart could all be handed their fifth All Australian selection.

GWS defender Taylor played only 15 games so under the AFL’s criteria fell short of the 16 games needed to qualify for the All Australian side.

Gold Coast’s Noah Anderson, West Coast’s Oscar Allen, Fremantle’s Luke Jackson, Sydney’s Nick Blakey and Port Adelaide’s Zak Butters would all be first-time All Australians after being included in the squad.

GWS has Stephen Coniglio, Toby Greene and Tom Green in contention for the eventual side, while Tim English, Jackson and Rowan Marshall are the ruck options.

Harris Andrews, Cal Wilkie, James Sicily, Dan Houston and Jacob Weitering join Moore as defensive options for the All Australian side, while Hawthorn’s Jai Newcombe was handed his first nod as an All Australian squad member.

Essendon’s Kyle Langford, Mason Redman and Zach Merrett made the 44, while Bulldogs midfielder Tom Liberatore remains in line for his first All Australian selection.

Carlton’s Charlie Curnow and Adelaide’s Taylor Walker are expected to be the two key forwards in the All Australian side.

St Kilda’s Jack Sinclair is a lock for the half back line.

The 2023 All Australian selection panel is Gillon McLachlan (chairperson), Eddie Betts, Jude Bolton, Nathan Buckley, Kane Cornes, Andrew Dillon, Glen Jakovich, Laura Kane, Cameron Ling and Matthew Pavlich.
