St Kilda has signed SANFL star Harry Boyd as its new back-up ruckman in a bid to support Rowan Marshall for next season.
The Saints have enlisted the 199cm workhorse under the league’s supplemental selection rules in a move expected to be formalised before Christmas.
The Norwood jet has impressed in his trial at the club and, at 26 years of age, is ready to press for selection from the early rounds next season.
The Saints needed more big man support after losing Tom Campbell (Melbourne), Tim Membrey (Collingwood) and Jack Hayes in the off-season.
Boyd dominated the SANFL this season averaging 41.8 hitouts, 20.1 disposals and 10.0 clearances per game to win the Magerey Medal.
The Shepparton product considered the best ruck option outside the AFL and will help bolster Ross Lyon’s big man stocks as the club attempts to jump back into the eight next season.
