US President Donald Trump has delivered an address to a joint session of his nation’s Congress, promising to make America “the most dominant civiliation ever to exist”.

That striking pledge came at the end of a speech that lasted about an hour and 40 minutes, easily the longest such address by any president in history. The famously long-winded Bill Clinton once went for an hour and a half.

While not officially a State of the Union - the first of these things in any president’s term is merely called a joint address - it functioned in exactly the same way.

Mr Trump covered a wide range of topics, including the war in Ukraine, his beloved tariffs, illegal immigration and, of course, law and order.

There was drama within minutes of the speech starting as one Democrat, Congressman Al Green, repeatedly heckled the President. He was eventually ejected from the chamber.

Otherwise the Democrats mainly absorbed Mr Trump’s words in stone-faced silence, with the occasional groan mixed in.
