US Election Live: Donald Trump holds press conference in garbage truck, slams Joe Biden, Kamala Harris

Donald Trump has told his supporters “250 million Americans are not garbage” after Joe Biden’s attack on his fans.

Welcome to our US Election blog – we are five days out from polling day and Donald Trump has seized on Joe Biden’s garbage slur to urge voters to tell Kamala Harris they are “not going to take it any more”.

The former president even climbed aboard a rubbish truck to drive home his attack, after the President fumbled a sledge and called Mr Trump’s supporters “garbage”.

Six days before the US election, the Vice President tried to clean up after Mr Biden’s error, saying: “I strongly disagree with any criticism of people based on who they vote for.”

But Mr Trump trashed Mr Biden and Ms Harris in Wisconsin, even borrowing the Vice President’s signature line to encourage Americans to “turn the page” on their administration.

“Kamala and Joe call all of us garbage … I call you the heart and soul of America,” the Republican told his supporters.

“For the past nine years, Kamala and her party have called us racists, bigots, fascists, deplorables, irredeemables, Nazis, and they called me Hitler … This Tuesday is your chance to stand up and declare that you are not going to take it any more.”

Other key moments in the campaign today include:

■ In a bizarre moment, US President Joe Biden playfully bit a baby on the leg at a White House Halloween event.

■ Ms Harris said she had not spoken to Mr Biden about his “garbage” comment, but that he had tried to clarify that he was referring to an individual supporter of Mr Trump.

■ Mr Trump campaigned in Green Bay, Wisconsin, with NFL legend Brett Favre.

■ Ms Harris maintained she wanted to “represent all Americans”, having called for unity and appealed to Mr Trump’s supporters in a major speech.
